The factory is situated in the heart of Mid-Wales in the small farming village of Leighton. Set in the centre of some of the most scenic countryside in Powys, Cooper engineering enjoys the tranquillity of its setting directly opposite a small lake which now forms part of a nature reserve. The company is family run, led by company director and founder Colin Cooper. Originally named Newtown Precision Engineering, it was founded in 1997 and has established itself as a successful local business. Customers vary from local caterers to international automotive and airspace industries. Cooper Engineering is proud to have produced work for Aston Martin, Bentley, Ford, Jaguar, JCB, Landrover, McClaren, Nissan, and Prodrive among others. Cooper Engineering has also provided for the fire brigade and safety industry.

Cooper Engineering has won four prestigious awards which include the Mid Wales Manufacturing Ideas Challenge (twice) and the WDA Young Entrepreneur Award. Since its foundation, the director has also developed a number of innovative and entrepreneurial projects, including ‘Spinlock’ and ‘Cooldrill’.
